Yorkville started as a small subdivision in the 1830s. It began its official life when it was incorporated as a village in 1853, before becoming part of Toronto in 1883. During the 1960s, it was the hub of Toronto’s youth counterculture. Its coffeehouses kick-started the careers of such luminaries as Joni Mitchell, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Gordon Lightfoot and Neil Young.

Today, the neighbourhood is known for charming Victorian homes and high-end shopping. It is anchored by the “mink mile” that runs along Bloor Street from Yonge Street to University Avenue. Yorkville features designer boutiques like Chanel, Tiffany, and Hermès, within walking distance from popular attractions like the Royal Ontario Museum, The George R. Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art and McLaughlin Planetarium.

The Bloor/Yonge subway station is located minutes away, on the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line. The Don Valley Parkway is approximately five minutes from Yorkville for those commuting by car.
