Palmerston-Little Italy is one of the most multicultural neighbourhoods in Toronto, with a strong sense of community. The tree-lined streets have magnificent Victorian-era houses, Edwardian mansions with ornate iron street lamps, and two-storey houses with very large bay windows.
The Little Italy shopping district on College Street, located between Shaw Street and Euclid Avenue, features authentic Italian restaurants and European fashions. Nearby is the Portugal Village shopping district on Dundas Street, which includes fresh fruit and vegetable markets, bakeries, seafood restaurants, and cafes with authentic Portuguese cuisine.
Many beautiful parks and outdoor spaces can be found in the community. These include Bickford Park, Art Eggleton Park, and the famous Christie Pits Park. Physically active residents can visit the West End YMCA at 931 College Street, with amenities that include a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and community meeting rooms. For a relaxing afternoon, residents can also use the College/Shaw Public Library, which serves as a community meeting place and offers reading material in several languages.
