Where is Midtown Toronto?

The official boundaries of Midtown are subject to interpretation. While there is some consensus among municipal staff, urban planners, and residents, the exact demarcation can differ (although differences are often marginal).

Charting the region on a map, Midtown Toronto is located immediately north of the city’s expansive Downtown area. With Bloor Street serving as its southern boundary, Midtown reaches Lawrence Avenue to the north.

Bayview Avenue is largely agreed to be Midtown’s eastern perimeter, winding northbound from the Don Valley along the fringes of several Midtown enclaves. However, the region’s western edge is occasionally the subject of debate, with its reach extending as far west as Ossington Avenue and Oakwood Avenue.

Midtown Toronto Neighbourhoods: North of Eglinton Avenue

Forest Hill North

Long considered one of North America’s most prestigious residential neighbourhoods, Forest Hill North is characterized by lush, tree-lined streets, low-density housing, and a private, secluded atmosphere. Well removed from the bustle of Toronto’s core, the enclave’s elevated degree of seclusion, elite residents, and revered lifestyle have made addresses in Forest Hill North among the most desirable in Canada.

Lawrence Park

One of Toronto’s most affluent neighbourhoods, Lawrence Park has been a first-choice destination for families since its initial development. Beyond the community’s exceptional atmosphere, lush streets, and remarkable homes, Lawrence Park is celebrated for its close-knit ambience. Strong relationships between neighbours and limited turnover have helped to preserve Lawrence Park’s distinctive atmosphere.

Leaside

Quickly growing in profile and popularity, Leaside is an exceptional family-oriented neighbourhood inspired by Toronto’s esteemed Rosedale neighbourhood.

Tucked away in Midtown, Leaside’s private streets, tranquil atmosphere, and abundant amenities make it a desirable location to lay down roots at any stage in one’s life.

The Heart of Midtown: Yonge & Eglinton

One of the city’s four urban centres, the bustling, culture-rich intersection of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue marks the geographic centre of Midtown Toronto.

Expanding into a modestly sized community surrounding the convergence of these two thoroughfares, Yonge and Eglinton, is a youthful yet refined enclave boasting exceptional real estate and an unparalleled quality of life. As a cultural, entertainment, and retail hub, the neighbourhood not only serves local residents but also draws in visitors and tourists.

Yonge and Eglinton’s profile is often simplified as merely an emerging area appealing primarily to young professionals. However, this established and vibrant community offers a more complex reality – a rich cultural profile and a distinctive identity that goes beyond that simple analysis.

Connecting Midtown to the Surrounding City

Centrally located within Midtown, and by extension, Toronto’s larger geographic sprawl, Yonge and Eglinton’s singular location makes it exceptionally easy for residents to access the surrounding city.

For those who travel by vehicle, the abundance of major roadways and highways nearby allows for quick and efficient travel. Yonge and Eglinton’s transit offerings include a dedicated subway station along Line 1, with routine service southbound to Downtown Toronto and Union Station, and northbound towards North York and Finch Avenue. Yonge and Eglinton is also set to be directly served by the soon-completed Eglinton Crosstown LRT.

Midtown Toronto Neighbourhoods: South of Eglinton Avenue

Chaplin Estates

One of Toronto’s wealthiest residential communities, Chaplin Estates is an opulent Midtown enclave immediately southwest of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue. Revered for its secluded, family-oriented environment and high-convenience location, residents of Chaplin Estate include some of Toronto’s most elite.

Governor’s Bridge

A small yet revered neighbourhood of less than two hundred homes, Governor’s Bridge is synonymous with exclusivity and privacy. Bordered on three sides by the lush Don River Valley, its ambience is truly unmatched. Families in Governor’s Bridge appreciate the limited local traffic, safe streets, and distinctly tranquil suburban air.

Forest Hill South

Adjacent to Forest Hill North, Forest Hill South is located west of Avenue Road between Eglinton and St. Clair Avenues. Like its esteemed neighbour, it is an exceptional neighbourhood with an international reputation for luxury, particularly known for its selection of private schools, which include some of the top-ranked institutions in Canada and North America.

Rosedale

Considered one of the most revered neighbourhoods in Canada, the historic and elegant Rosedale represents the epitome of upper-echelon living in Toronto. Over the past several decades, residents’ long-term commitment to the community has allowed Rosedale to preserve and nurture its distinct atmosphere.

Summerhill

Summerhill is one of Toronto’s most exceptional and highly sought-after neighbourhoods, situated immediately north of the city’s vibrant downtown core. This established enclave is filled with charm and distinguishes itself among other affluent areas by expertly balancing a suburban ambiance with urban liveliness.

Providing unique real estate and lifestyle opportunities for buyers who prefer either density, seclusion, or harmony between both, Summerhill is renowned for its historic homes, contemporary housing developments, proximity to the city centre, and a vast selection of upscale amenities.

Wychwood Park

Wychwood Park is a considerable rarity – a true gated neighbourhood in the heart of Toronto. Tucked towards the western fringes of Midtown, Wychwood Park’s natural exclusivity is evident.

Wychwood Park is arguably Midtown Toronto’s calmest and quietest neighbourhood, largely due to its private nature. Its protected roadways are reserved primarily for residents, resulting in a unique sense of peace and a minimal amount of vehicular traffic.
